Franz Klammer promotes World Cup in Bad Kleinkirchheim

The New Year will start under his auspices – when the world’s fastest women skiers compete in a downhill race in Bad Kleinkirchheim on January 7, followed by a Super-G the next day, Carinthia’s greatest sporting legend will be present in more ways than one. After all, Lindsey Vonn and her colleagues will be hurtling down a track bearing the name of the gold medallist: “Kärnten – Franz Klammer.“ For this reason, the man who won the downhill World Cup no less than five times is more than happy to promote the races that will take place in his home region. On posters and buses, Franz Klammer (57) draws attention to the upcoming large-scale sporting event. The skiing legend was styled as a serious-looking gentleman who is basking in the adoration of the young speed ladies. This slightly ironic angle was selected on purpose by photographer Martin Steinthaler: “After all, he has always been popular with the ladies, not just for his sporting prowess”, says Stefan Heinisch, Managing Director of the Bad Kleinkirchheim Tourism Marketing GmbH. Either way – the James Bond look suits Klammer rather well. “The unusual composition of the image also makes sure that we will be noticed by people who are not normally that interested in sports”, adds Heinisch.

For all those wanting to experience the Women’s AUDI FIS Ski World Cup live in Bad Kleinkirchheim, we have special World Cup packages on offer, starting from € 257 for three nights, a two-day ski pass and free entry to the two races on January 7 and 8. Relaxation is also included: the package comes with a day at the Thermal Römerbad spa (including sauna). Packages may be booked for the period from January 5 – 8 and January 6 - 9 January 2012.

Racing fever in the Nockberge Mountains!

7th and 8th January 2012: Ladies’ World Cup Downhill and Super-G.

Racing fever is sweeping through the Nockberge Mountains! The Carinthian skiing and spa resort of Bad Kleinkirchheim starts into the new 2012 season with a skiing highlight: in the course of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, the world’s fastest female skiers will have a Downhill race on 7th January and a Super-G race on 8th January.

Bad Kleinkirchheim is no newcomer to the international ski circuit. Again and again ski stars return to this holiday resort in the Nockberge Mountains; a place with a long tradition that not only realised that thermal water could be the basis of a successful well-being holiday, but is also a perfect place when it comes to winter sports, since it is an established destination for skiers and snowboarders from all over the world with approximately 100 kilometres of slopes.

In January, of course, the racing events will take place on a part of available pistes that wouldn’t be the first choice for most average skiers: the “Kärnten-Franz-Klammer” race course. Named after one of the most successful skiers in the modern era, it is known to be extremely difficult. On a piste length of 3,150 metres, and with a difference in height of 740 metres, the female skiers will find everything their hearts desire: jumps, sharp bends and fast gliding sections. Exciting competitions are therefore guaranteed.

Bad Kleinkirchheim is looking forward to the upcoming racing days with excitement. As well as the first race of the season in Sölden and the last in Schladming, the female skiers will be guests in Austria only one more time – in Lienz. Spectators from Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia are expected to come to the races. “This event is also a true highlight for our guests who spend their holidays here”, says Stefan Heinisch, managing director of Bad Kleinkirchheimer Tourismus Marketing GmbH. “This event also enables us to show the enormous range of our offers and slightly modify our motto: ‘From the racing piste to the thermal spas’.”

Schedule for the racing weekend: Thursday and Friday from 11.45am official training; Saturday, 7th January 2012, 11.45 am start of the downhill race; Sunday 11.45am start of the Super-G. The presentation ceremonies and the drawing of the numbers will take place on the open air stage in the finish area.

We offer attractive travel packages for the World Cup weekend: Included are 3 nights in a double room in the chosen category in the area Bad Kleinkirchheim / Nockberge, a 2-day ski pass "Top Skipass Kärnten Gold" valid in Carinthia, 1 entrance into the thermal spa Römerbad and sauna, entrance to the World Cup race downhill and Super-G women on Saturday the 7th of January and Sunday the 8th of January 2012 and a welcome present. Bookable from 5th - 8th January 2012 or 6th - 9th January 2012 from € 263,- (in a boarding house*** including breakfast).
